Polycom Adds New Desk and Video Phones to Lineup

Polycom has added several new desk phones to its product portfolio. One brings SIP-based HD voice capability for under $200. A second works specifically with Microsoft OCS 2007. And a third provides compatibility with both video conferencing and unified communications platforms.

The SoundPoint IP 335 comes at a suggested retail price of $199. Combined with other products, that lets companies extend HD voice capability throughout their organizations, rather than limiting it to executives. The new desk phone is standards-based, using the SIP protocol and G.722 wideband codec. It comes with a backlit LCD and power over Ethernet support.

The CX300 is even cheaper, at $169. It works with the Microsoft OCS 2007 R2 IP PBX application, and connects to the user's desktop computer via a USB port. It allows calling via dialpad in addition to the onscreen call-handling interface.

The new VVX 1500 D Business Media Phone supports both H.323 and SIP protocols, the D standing for dual stack. That means the device both works with the many video conferencing systems still use the H.323 protocol, and also integrates with SIP-based unified communications platforms, according to Tim Yankey, Polycom director of product marketing for desktop and conferencing products. The videophone also has an open API so developers can easily integrate it with business applications. Suggested retail price is $1,199.
